hi gang!! sorry i’ve been totally rubbish lately but i’m like super important at work now so super busy (not really, I am just perpetually exhausted and forgetful).

but I’m back!! and from now on will be combining jobs & internships into one weekly post because there aren’t usually that many internships and it gives me one less thing to forget. aiming to do it every sunday, so keep an eye out!!

Editorial Internship @ Harper Collins (!!!!!!!)

Harper are looking for a capable and enthusiastic Editorial Intern to join us in the Editorial team within Collins Learning for 2 months initially, with the possibility of this being extended. The internship will start with immediate effect and the successful candidate will be supporting the Editors and Managing Editors in delivering our primary, secondary and international publishing programmes, and the Operations Manager in maintaining divisional process.

Communications Assistant, Children & Adult @ Faber & Faber

This is an exciting role that would suit someone looking to start their publishing career.

Working across the Children’s and Adult publishing divisions at Faber, you will be supporting the Children’s Marketing team and Adult Publicity team. The Communications Assistant will require excellent organisation and communication skills, creativity, ability to hit deadlines and passion and drive.

Please note that the role will divide between 3 days Children’s marketing and 2 days Adult publicity support, so a passion for children’s publishing is an important consideration.

Sales & Publicity @ James Clarke & co (Cambridge)

James Clarke and its sister imprint, The Lutterworth Press, have been publishing academic non-fiction for over 200 years.

A good knowledge of Microsoft Excel, Adobe InDesign and Photoshop is preferred but not essential. This role would particularly suit those with an interest in sales, publishing or theology. Sales & Marketing Assistant @ Edinburgh University Press
The successful applicant will carry out supportive marketing activities, including preparing review plans, approving inspection copy requests, creating flyers, maintaining marketing plans, and author care. In addition, you will be responsible for updating the EUP website, sending book data to key accounts, preparing Advanced Information sheets and various administrative sales & marketing tasks.
You will have some demonstrable administrative experience, an excellent eye for detail and experience of InDesign; you should also be comfortable with using data management systems. Good customer service skills are essential, as is the ability to work efficiently and effectively in a busy environment.

Administrative Assistant @ Ilex (Octopus)

Penguin Random House Contracts department is looking for someone to join them as Contracts and Permissions Assistant to work with the Penguin, Dorling Kindersley and Rough Guide lists on a 12 month fixed term contract.

You will be responsible for negotiating, administering and managing a wide range of permission requests in order to license the use of material to third parties, which includes liaising with authors, agents and internal staff where needed as well as maintaining permissions records and contractual data.

You will also be required to prepare a variety of other acquisition contracts, addenda and/or sublicenses across several divisions, and support other members of the team with other duties.

Communications Department Admin Assistant @ Vintage

In this busy role, your key focus will be to support the managers with diary management and related administration. You will be constantly on the go, checking and updating department budgets, producing presentations and reports and assisting with other ad hoc tasks.

 

Being proactive and anticipating needs ahead of time is also crucial to the success of this role.  A comprehensive knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel and Word is key. Some knowledge of budget management is also preferable.

This role will suit someone with a minimum of 1 year’s experience in a PA, Admin Assistant or equivalent role who is used to working within a busy team (if you don’t just apply anyway).

Creative Metadata Assistant/Executive @ Michael Joseph

 

Penguin’s commercial fiction and non-fiction division Michael Joseph is looking for a Creative Metadata Assistant/Executive who knows what words people use to find books online and what words persuade them to click and buy.

This is an exciting, brand-new opportunity for someone looking to start a career in publishing. You’ll be responsible for reviewing the book copy and keywords that feed out to online retailers, ensuring our books are easy to find online and our copy echoes the conversations people are having around them.

Day-to-day you can expect to carry out a range of tasks: monitoring online charts, media reviews and customer conversations, updating metadata and copy, refreshing our backlist titles and experimenting. This will involve working closely with the editorial and the communications teams.

Translations & International Assistant (French) @ DK IPL

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • liaising with internal departments and translators

Office Assistant @ Scholastic

Scholastic is seeking an organised and reliable individual to join their Witney team as an Office Assistant.

You will support the Office Manager with administrative tasks and facilities at their Witney Office. You will be also support the Education team with publishing administration tasks as well as responding to email and telephone queries.

You will have previous experience in an administrative/office based role and have good attention to detail and able to work to deadlines whilst remaining organised. You will also have excellent communication skills both verbal and written and work effectively as part of a team.
