Bluebird Communications Assistant @ Pan Macmillan (initial 6 month fixed contract)
Pan Macmillan is looking for a skilled, self-motivated and highly-organized Communications Assistant with six months to a year’s experience working in a publishing or similar industry. 

The position will involve:

  • • Handling review mailings and sending out requested review copies
  • • Creating bound proofs and samplers
  • • Working with in-house and external contacts to create effective promotional material
  • • Assisting with creating Bluebird content including author videos, newsletter copy, pitch documents, social media assets etc.
  • • Booking travel for the department and authors as needed

You will be in charge of all of the office admin for the department of seven, including invoicing, creating tweet cards and show cards, mailings, writing press releases, helping out at launches and bookshop events. You will also be required to organise author tours and interviews, create schedules and to accompany authors to event, festivals and media interviews.

Foreign Rights Assistant @ Octopus

The role will involve assisting with the fulfilment of the department’s co-edition and licence deals with overseas customers as well as giving administrative support to two of the rights sales managers. It will also require regular communication with the production, design, editorial and finance departments in order to ensure the timely and successful delivery of our customer’s orders.

The successful candidate will report to an experienced Foreign Rights Sales Manager. We are looking for a good team player, a highly organised individual with an eye for detail and excellent interpersonal and communication skills and with a minimum to 6 months to a year office experience. Fluency in one or more foreign languages will be desirable.

UK Sales Assistant @ Bloomsbury

This role reports to the Senior Key Account Manager and provides administrative and organisational support to the UK Sales team.

The role
• Processing sales figures and producing sales and commission reports for the UK Sales team
• Providing support to the Adult Key Account team by producing packs and grids for their presentations and general account support as required
• Prepare bi-monthly sales kits/order forms for Area Sales Managers and liaise with the Area Sales Managers regularly
• Responsible for organising supply of books for special events and author signings
• Liaising with any third party agencies and ensuring all bibliographic is up-to-date
• Responding to requests for catalogues/ book samples/AI sheets/ book jackets
• Monitoring all Sales requests and liaising with our distributor and monitoring any orders
• Booking travel
• Holiday cover for colleagues as required

Skills, knowledge and experience
• Excellent communicator who is confident dealing with people at all levels, particularly on the phone
• Excellent time-management and organisational skills
• An interest in the UK books market and a desire to learn about key sales customers and strategies
• Ability to adapt to changing daily tasks
• PC literate including a strong working knowledge of Excel, Word and Powerpoint
• Working knowledge of Biblio, Nielsen Bookscan, Midas, Cognos and Vista would be a distinct advantage

The Midas Public Relations graduate training programme entails working on a series of their arts, publishing, events and consumer accounts reporting to a series of different Account Managers at Midas.

You would be trained to build and run a PR campaign from beginning to end, including; PR strategy and planning, writing effective and convincing copy for press releases and email pitches, building media lists, running PR software, social media, day to day liaison with arts journalists, project management, creative brainstorming, attending journalist meetings, setting up publicity schedules including interviews, book signings and author events.

You would also be expected to attend a number of client related events ranging from publishing trade events, to author launches, award ceremonies and festivals.
