Journals Publishing Manager @ Liverpool University Press

The role of Journals Publishing Assistant reflects LUP’s growing journals portfolio and ambitious future plans. Reporting to the Press’s Head of Journals for three days per week and its Head of Sales for two days per week the role will cover a wide range of journals activity. The job is based in Liverpool, but will require some travel.

Marketing Assistant @ Osprey Publishing (Oxford)

The role
• Copywriting and implementing marketing campaigns through email, web promotions, digital content and direct mail
• Creating catalogues and other trade and direct to consumer marketing materials Maintaining and updating the Osprey e-commerce website
• Providing in-house customer support for website, phone and mail enquiries (in conjunction with a third party customer service provider)
• Updating, moderating and monitoring Osprey’s social media accounts, blog and forum
• Assisting with organizing and attending events in the UK
• Providing general support for the marketing department, as well as other marketing related tasks

Skills, knowledge, experience
• An academic background in history or publishing would be an advantage, but is not essential
• The ability to understand the passion of the enthusiast is vital
• Basic knowledge of InDesign and Photoshop is desirable but not essential

Managing Editorial Assistant @ Vintage

A key part of this job involves supporting the Managing Editorial Director (it is a department of two) by keeping up to date, and checking, records and schedules for all the imprints’ covers and inside text.  You will also liaise with the wider business – Production, Design, Marketing, Publicity and Sales – such as circulating artwork between departments (and keeping a record of this). There will be weekly Production and Cover meetings to attend.

An excellent eye for detail is needed for proofreading artwork and other material for Design and Marketing, and you will help maintain a database of freelances (copy-editors, proofreaders and indexers), speaking to them on the telephone, sending manuscripts and proofs, following up correspondence and dealing with invoices. So you will be an accurate proofreader and have a keen interest in the English language and a thorough knowledge of English grammar, spelling and punctuation. IT literacy is also essential for the role.

This broad role also requires you to deputise for the Managing Editorial Director (who works four days a week) when she is away as well as keeping the office running smoothly and managing general office admin.

This is a wonderful opportunity for someone with a demonstrable interest in literary book publishing to gain experience within a high-profile publishing division, or for an existing Editorial Assistant keen to learn more about the process of managing books through publication across the breadth of the Vintage lists and departments.

Publicity Assistant @ Ebury

Ebury are looking for a super-organised individual to join the Publicity team as Publicity Assistant. Reporting to three Senior Publicity Managers, you will act as the first point of contact for incoming queries and be responsible for the smooth running of the department.

This will include maintenance of information on departmental databases, diary management, organising mailings, booking author travel and accommodation and helping to arrange and attend events.

This role will suit a real team-player who is keen to get stuck in and learn the ropes with a pro-active approach to their work, and a can-do attitude. You will be IT literate, meticulous to detail and be able to prioritise under pressure.

Finally, you will love reading, and will have a demonstrable interest in the publishing industry.  An interest in popular culture and social media is also an asset.
