We’ve all been there. You want to ask about payment for your internship/job but you don’t want to instantly look like a rude, money grabbing bastard. I get it! BUT RELAX, IT’S TOTALLY FINE.
People advertising jobs and internships are expecting this question, and they won’t think any less of you if you ask it. Everyone knows that money is important, especially seeing as 95% of publishing is based in London and it’s insanely expensive to live/get here (which is precisely why unpaid internships shouldn’t even be a thing but I’m not even going to get into that now).
Asking about payment is not going to stop you getting the role, and if anything it will save everyone a lot of time and effort in the long run. If you can’t afford to live in London for three months, should you go to an interview for a three month internship based in London?? Well, yes, actually, because it will be good experience.. So that was a bad example. But you get the point.
So if you need to ask them when you get offered an interview, do it. If you need to ask them during the interview, do it! I promise you that it will not make you look bad and it will not affect your chances at all.
